Sabotaging Strategy #1
"I live free on the weekends" This strategy can fail for many reasons....One, letting go of our plan on the weekends could encourage an increase in calorie intake of 500 or more per day! Remember this: It takes one hour to burn 500 calories and only 5 minutes to eat them!!!! Instead, think of letting go and relaxing on the weekends in other ways....Explore new hobbies, exercise routines, read that new fitness magazine that you subscribed to.....
We have been created new in Christ, not to live our old lifestyle and the same is true for our journey toward health and wellness....We have created a new life and "thrown away the old unhealthy one!" Don't invite it back for weekend visits!

Sabotaging Strategy #2
"I make excuses not to exercise" It has been proven time and again that the human body is capable of losing weight without major activity changes.....BUT (don't you hate those...) it has also been proven that in order to keep the weight off we must change our level of activity.....If the idea of implementing even 30 minutes of exercise seems overwhelming, Remember this: A 10-minute walk is better than NO walk at all! In the words of Bob Harper from the Biggest Loser, "Move a little more today than you did yesterday!" So get up and move.....Now.....Seriously.....Go.....(after you finish the article :)

Sabotaging Strategy #3
"It doesn't matter where the calories come from...." Although this may have been the case several years ago, in the age of overly processed foods it is imperative that we look at more than just calories.....Fat, Protein and Carbs, are all macronutrients our body derives everything from energy to fighting disease and balancing the intake of all is important...Why? Overeating in any of these areas results in fat storage and we all know fat is more challenging for the body to burn than calories.....Remember this: Think about how you will feel after you eat....Will what you are consuming leave you feeling sluggish and bloated or energetic and lean? And follow my number one personal rule for regularity and calorie reduction: Eat fruit with every meal and ALWAYS eat it first (try this for a week and email me and let me know what you think :)

Sabotaging Strategy #4
"I don't eat all day, but at night, watch out" Starvation throughout the day will not result in long-term weight loss and studies show that most people who eat little throughout the day and consume the majority of their calories in the evening are more likely to consume more calories AND WEIGH MORE than those who eat regularly during the day...Our bodies need fuel throughout the day to function..Remember this: Eating regularly during the day keeps our metabolism boosted and calories burning and discourages food cravings and "binging." Some studies even indicate that people who eat regularly throughout the day weigh less than those who eat 3 square meals a day..

Sabotaging Strategy #5
"No Diets on Special Occasions" This mentality can be fatal for overall health and wellness... Birthday party Sunday, work party Monday, baby shower Tuesday....Before we know it there is a special occasion everyday! A healthy lifestyle is meant to be just that; a lifestyle, the norm.....Fitting in the "special occasions" does not have to be fatal for our healthy lifestyle....Remember this: Moderation and portion control are always key and being flexible doesn't hurt....Drink extra water the day of the event, add an extra walk into your regimen and always remember this; the event is about the fellowship, friends and family....Not the food!

Keep your focus on the long-term goal. Deep down, we realize that going completely off our plan and remaining in a "Diet mode" instead of focusing on lifestyle change is not God's plan for this journey. Everyday think about and set a healthy goal for the day! That will set the stage for success....
