So How much of "that" should I have everyday?

In the age of processing just about everything, so that we can have it Yesterday!!, counting more than calories has become a necessity in the journey toward improved health and wellness....
Before this piece of information sends you to the pantry saying "counting calories is hard enough, forget it, it's just not worth it...." Let me assure you, it's easier than you may think and I will outline in here for you...Here we go...The major players in the game of weight loss are as follows...

SODIUM:
Here are the cold, hard facts. The body requires only 500 milligrams of sodium each day. The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,400 milligrams of sodium per day, but most of us take in more than 4,000 milligrams every day.
In the interest of keeping it simple: if you are trying to lose weight, stay somewhere between
1500-2000mg per day (remember, sodium content is on food labels too!)

SUGAR:
The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends no more than 8 teaspoons per day of added sugar based on a 2,000 calories/day diet. That's 32 grams if you're reading labels, and about 6% of your total calories for the day. Sounds like a lot, but believe me... it's not.
32 total grams sugar/ 4 grams per teaspoon = < 8 teaspoons added sugar/day
Again, in the interest of keeping it simple: a good rule of thumb when looking at that nutrition label: 6-10mg (per serving) of whatever you are eating.....
You say, what about fruits and vegetables that already have sugar? I say, if we are eating more fruits and vegetables and less packaged foods, then we are on the right path! Trust me, it's not the sugar in the apple, that's causing my weight problems!!!
FAT:
In general if we are trying to lose weight we should consume no more than 30% of our calories from fat... (EX: 2000 calories per day.....no more than 60 grams of fat per day)
Some experts, though, agree that if we are serious about our weight loss we should shoot for 30-35 grams per day!
So, in simple terms, our goal for the day.....somewhere between 30-6o grams of fat!(a good rule of thumb here is less than 15-20 grams of fat per meal!)

I hope this post helps and as always, feel free to add a comment or some helpful knowledge of your own!
God bless and have a happy and healthy day!
Love,
Julie
